From what I have gathered in my build Glass coated is the way to go for projection. It's what is used in Projectors and the old projection based TV's.
If you need a piece of a certain size PM me I can cut a piece off if you want to pay shipping, I have a huge mirror I just cut up last night.

A good source for quality first surface mirrors made of glass is firstsurfacemirror.com. They will cut to size and are reasonably priced for the quality you get. Remember to get the glass kind and not the acrylic.

Does it matter if it is surface coated or back coated?

Here this image shows exactly what happens if a regular mirror is used instead of a first surface.
