actually, the miror is a hdd and not a cd. optical miror are expensive and hard to find.... while a old hdd... there are tons around u ! the quality is fine and I see no difference with optical miror for printing. (I'd tested both).

I'am following this project and I have tested a dvd with a controller board toshiba TB6560 but I don't find the number of the steps for a right positioning of the plate. I have set the controller at half step, current 20%, voltage between 5v and 12v, steps between 9 and 9,15 (I need the right number). I use grbl firmware and to move the plate Universal-G-Code-Sender.

dvd's steppers are pretty standard try 20 steps

the problem you will have is that the tb6560 , suit 1.8 deg steppers , where dvd steppers are 18 deg per step
so they probably will not be optimum .

you'll find full step is better for these drives , however i do not think the tb6560 goes to full step , i think the lowest is half step
so probably a basic L298 Circuit may be better , i dont know .
