somebody needs to get a hand on this:
http://www.toshiba-components.com/mobil ... ridge.html
This chip basically allows us to use a wide variety of LCD panels from the many smartphones out there since it is outputting MIPI DSI signal from a HDMI input. Better yet the output reaches 4K Ultra HD resolution.
This seems to be not a turnkey solution, I know. But I think it's a very promising prospect, especially for some of us desiring to print small and highly detailed objects. I can Imagine using a 2560 x 1440 pixel with 5.5" / 6" LCD panels, which will allow us 534.04 / 489.53 PPI to enjoy.
Unfortunately don't have the technical know how, nor the budget at the moment to venture in this direction. Furthermore, seems that availability is only for North America (and probably Europe as well) but not for Asia (which is where I live). I know, because I tried my hardest yesterday to send an inquiry to their Asian Region site, but I just failed to get through, no matter how many times I clicked the "submit" button after writing a long explanation
On the other hand I found a PDF file promoting this product, complete with offices which you can contact. I don't know if the pdf will appear not that it will be possible for you guys, but I'll just copy-paste those phone numbers here:

Perhaps abdrumm (Brook) could give this a try? He said that he's interested in helping further this development.
I would really love to see a brand new development direction with LCD 3D printers. What some of us have been working on are great, but it still leaves a certain users in the cold at the moment. Looking forward to seeing somebody developing high resolution (or ultra high resolution?) LCD printer

Re: Retina iPad Display
Looks like the Chrome Pixel LCD panel also becomes an option for us.
http://www.tarduino.cc/2014/10/chromebo ... cd-to.html
only $63 USD for a replacement pannel.

2560 x 1700 at 12.8", means a printable area of 27.3cm × 18.13cm (106 Micron on the X, Y )
cheers,

Re: Retina iPad Display
Digging a bit further about the Toshiba interface chip, this article tells us the it may not be a costly little product. Sample price as of September 25, 2013 was at $5.00. Yup, 5 bucks.
http://news.thomasnet.com/fullstory/HDM ... s-20015094
Would someone give it a try?

Re: Retina iPad Display
That article states a max resolution of 1920x1080, not good enough for a high res panel.

Re: Retina iPad Display
Hi Glacian,
depends.. really
i mean if you want to use the Iphone 6 plus screen
itsa 5.5" with a full hd resolution. wit a surface you can print on off 12.18cm × 6.85cm = 83.39cm²) at 400.53 PPI, 63 Micron X, Y plane.
I call that a very nice SLA printer
but if you want to go bigger then it become problematic.
cheers,

Re: Retina iPad Display
This one might answer Glacian's demand (and everybody desiring very high resolution -not necessarily very large build-):
http://toshiba.semicon-storage.com/ap-e ... /hdmi.html
The chips are called TC358840XBG &TC358870XBG. They are capable of outputting 4K 3840 x 2160 resolution. This is as high a resolution as one can get at the moment
Although, we can't use all of their potentials yet at the moment, as available smartphone LCD's are still in the 2K region. Here are some of them:
BRAND-PIXEL COUNT-DIAGONAL MEASURE-PRICE (ONLINE)-BUILD AREA (milimeter)-XY RESOLUTION
ZTE NUBIA Z7 PRESALE 2560 X 1440 5.5” $699 534.04 121.7 x 68.5 47.56µ
OPPO FIND 7 2560 X 1440 5.5” $599 534.04 121.7 x 68.5 47.56µ
IUNI U3 2560 X 1440 5.5” $399 534.04 121.7 x 68.5 47.56µ
PHILIPS i966 2560 X 1440 5.5” 534.04 121.7 x 68.5 47.56µ
COOLPAD 9971 2560 X 1440 5.5” 534.04 121.7 x 68.5 47.56µ
VIVO XPLAY 3S 2560 X 1440 6.0” 489.53 132.8 x 74.7 51.88µ
Those XY resolutions are good enough for highly detailed prints, right?
LCD replacement for those phones are available at places like aliexpress for $50 to $110 (if i remember them correctly)
The Toshiba chips are also available for sampling / purchase for you guys in The States. So somebody may want to give Toshiba a call

Re: Retina iPad Display
I also found a few more things, might as well share it. Hope this can be useful somehow..
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases ... 77411.html
This company offers MIPI DSI converter board based on the Toshiba chip, though the older one (TC358743XBG) outputting 1920 x 1080. The downside is, the price is just NOT RIGHT. Anyone care to pay $295?
http://boundarydevices.com/products/bd_hdmi_mipi/
I sense that this is a highly potential route to be taken by someone in the forum. If I have access to the chip and have the necessary skill and knowledge to handle / experimenting with it, I will do it. Sadly for me, I don't have both at the moment.
Could someone build a similar board (with 2K capability) and sell it at just the right price? I believe it will be awesome.
I have high hopes in the development of this LCD 3D printer. Pretty soon it will surpass DLP, and I'm happy to be able to take part in it and witnessing its growth
Salute

Hey all,
You guys are def posting useful info here, but I started this thread specifically to work with iPad screen based systems...thus the title.
Let's move all the potential new screen options into it's own thread.

Re: Retina iPad Display
How would one go about buying an led array that Phife has designed and built? I know it says contact phife directly, but I guess A newbie can't message fellow people on here?
Anyways. I have been watching this board, others and others... One thing I can't figure out is why a tilt vat is needed? I have been testing FEP for a bottom and don't really see any UV ink sticking to it. What then is the tilt action for? My thought is to have layers continuously be printed without any tilt or raise between each layer.. Possible? if not, why?
Just the two issues I have. FEP and Light.. Can't find light powerful enough...
