Lasershark+20kpps Galvos..RESOLUTION?

Postby zoom » Mon Dec 01, 2014 12:57 pm

Hello to all,
i have a Lasershark board with 20 kpps galvos kit and a 150 mW 405 nm laser with TTL modulation..... I'm starting to build my first SLA Printer.
I am searching to understand how to calculate the resolution in X-Y axis.....but i need some help.

The only things that i know is that the galvos draw 20.000 points per second...and that Lasershark has 12-bit X and Y output.

Can you help me?

Thank you

Francesco

The LaserShark controller board has a 12bit X/Y max deflection resolution. If the max deflection is scanned onto an area of 100x100mm, then this is 100mm / 4096 possible addressable points of a final res of 0.0244140625 mm, or approximately 24 microns X/Y. Considering that the average spot size of a UV laser is actually around 200-300 microns, you're going to be limited by the laser before the achievable X/Y res. The Lasershark X/Y resolution is 1 order of magnitude greater than the UV Laser resolution.

Thank you PacManFan,
so you are saying that, for the definition of the laser, i will have in XY 300 microns (0,3 mm) of definition.
At the same time instead if i use a DLP (1920x1080 for example) the definition it would be 100/1920=0,052 52 microns.

So DLP is better than LASER?!

:shock:

Generally, if you use a DLP, you will get better resolution than a Galvo/Laser system, yes.

Searching on internet i found this 3D SLA Printers with the following tech Spec:

1) FORM +1 : Min Feature Size (XY)=300 microns; Z=25 microns;
2) PEGASUS TOUCH: Focused Laser Spot Size: ~250 microns; XY Positioning Resolution: 16bit precision, ~2,7 micron; Z=5 microns;
3) XFAB (DWS LAB): Min Feature Size (XY)=80 microns; Z=10 microns;

The Tech Spec of the first two are in line with the calculations made.
For the third printer i see that they give 80 microns......will be real?

Ok for the Z resolution.....just another question:
is it possible to improve the resolution of spot size of a UV laser using Zero Aperture Iris Diaphragms?..i don't know..up to 10 microns?

While the project had to make a 3D laser printer, and now I've decided, I bought a 200mw laser with 405nm frecucencia. and I have a doubt whether the galvos, draiver of this kit are good to start with the machine 20 sets galvo laser scanner ILDA 40Kpps Max 30 Kpps closed loop.
and recommend me software for machine control.
