Nema 23?

Hey everyone,
I have had a nema17 for some time now doing testing. I recently upgraded to a nema23 with 8 wire leads. I managed to get them down to 4 leads, and my motor has power.
I feel like my potentiometer is not set correctly for a nema23?
I have it at .45V for the nema17, works great.
I am running a 12v power supply. Could this motor need more power? DO i turn my pot up?
Any help to steer me in the right direction will help.
