Top down system for sale $900

Postby gmoneyphx » Wed Jan 14, 2015 2:19 pm

This is the third top down system I have built and I am going back to FDM. I am sick of the mess of cleaning up the resin and fighting warpage problems. Asking $900. That is a good deal for this setup.

I started out just thinking of selling the projector but I figured somebody might want the rest of it so why toss it out? This is a nice unit overall and perfect for someone who wants to experiment. It is basically ready to use but it is not an "off the shelf" solution. If you need to buy something and start printing that day look elsewhere.

Projector - Viewsonic 7820HD (1080p) Approx 200 lamp hours. Color wheel disabled - done by a viewsonic authorized repair center. Note - when you call the service center and ask them to break the glass off of the color wheel they are a bit mystified for a while.

Top down system itself -
Body constructed of 1/4" steel plate - I don't like machines that are made of plywood.
Z axis - Nema 17 with integrated lead screw. 15mm Hiwin linear rail and bearing. 3D printed (SLS) mount that joins the lead screw, linear bearing and holds the build plate support bracket.
Power supply - 12V 10A
Controller - Arduino Mega2560 running Marlin firmware
Ventilation - Rule 240 bilge blower connected to a variable speed controller. I hate the smell of this resin so this unit is setup to vent it out the 4" vent in the top.
Limit switches: Has limit switches on both the Z+ and Z- side.

Questions I expect to get:

What is the range of motion in Z?: About 6.5 usable inches.

What is the XY resolution: Can be adjusted from 50 microns to about 140 microns. The bracket that holds the projector can slide up and down. When you go down to 50 microns the tallest part you can build is about 65mm. At 100 microns and above you can build a part roughly 6.5" tall.

Anything special about the controller: No. Standard off the shelf mega2560 running marlin firmware.

What do you do for a vat? You will have to work out the resin vat/container for yourself. I built mine from acrylic because I was experimenting with resin floating on top of saltwater (which works pretty darn good BTW)

Some items I have printed with it. All are a 50/50 mix of SubG+ and SubF from Makerjuice.
