UV LEDs

This is the place to discuss DLP projectors, UV Lasers, Galvanometers, LCD screens and similar display devices. Also discussed are optics in general.

UV LEDs

Postby AndersonTa » Sun Feb 16, 2014 2:41 am

So where are folks finding sources for UV LEDs to swap out in their LED based projectors?

Ebay 405nm UV LEDs http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid= ... &_from=R40
and 365nm UV LEDs: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=40 ... D&_sacat=0

I use 1 Watt for testing. 3-10W for replacement in my Pico-Projector. A larger projector may need 20+ Watts.

So at say the 10 watt replacements your using, how large of a build plate are you able to use? And are you just using a external ballast for the higher power LEDS?

I cut out an aluminum heatsink from a processor, I still need to get a smaller fan to help with cooling. I know for a fact that 2 Leds - (402nm & 365nm) 3W Leds will suffice for a pico projector of 102x78mm at a layer speed of 3-6 seconds.

Wow seriously 2 of the 3 watt can work properly? Going to have to start researching this a little more. Sounds like it would make nice compact SLA printer. Do you have any build logs on your trials so far?

Ahh found your Blog. :) I see you were using a 10watt LED in your tests and stripped the light path down to just the lens, have you changed your design to now use 2 of the 3Watt LEDs then? And does that AAXA P2jr have the native resolution they claim (1280X800) There's conflicting specs on various sites.

Yes, using a pico you can get a very compact DLP machine. I plan on making a new machine with a back pack design kind of like the Solidator does, but I won't be going for as large of a print area. I would like to keep the X/Y resolution within 200 microns at the most.

I'm going to try and see if I can get my hands on a modified pico, but if not I will try and use the parts listed here.

Currently, I'm using the larger 10W square 1cm^2 400nm UV LED, I still haven't decided if I'm going to go with a smaller 5W 365nm one yet. I'm in the process of constructing my new machine. I spent a few hours working on it today.

No, the P2 jr res is only 640x480. For a true 1280 dlp engine, the projector would cost a lot more.
