Re: lcd3dprinter
When I say "show me a commercial machine using LCD's..." it does not count to include a non-shipping, unproven, 0 day company. Especially given that they have been talking about getting to Kickstarter since at least May. Has anybody noticed the average lag from Kickstarter to delivering a ...

Re: Kast 3DP (LCD Based?)
Very easy to announce your new 3d printer coming soon. An order of magnitude harder to deliver the printer. And then an order of magnitude harder to deliver a GOOD working product. That puts the ratio of announced printers to successful delivered printers at about 1/100. Which is pretty close to the...

I was wrong about LCD printers!!!!
This one is so good that, as the article states... "Even 3D printed lenses should be possible with Kast 3D printer." I guess that depends on your definition of a lens. Probably going to pass on this one... http://www.3ders.org/articles/20141002-kast-lcd-based-sla-3d-printer-soon-on-kicksta...

Re: lcd3dprinter
"What really differentiates LCD printers from DLP printers is the fact that LCD technology enables the creation of a very large build plate." The optics in a DLP system gives you a way to choose your build size. Not so much for LCD. Not to mention the UV problem. As far as 3D printing goes...

Re: Makerjuice seems to eat enamel paint
I got rid of the smoke by reducing the exposure time a bit. In this case I had the DLP (3000 lumen - color wheel removed) focused down to an area of 50mm x 38mm. Very bright and turns out Makerjuice cures quite quickly in this case

Re: Top down wins...
I boolean drain holes in using netfabb. Too hard to automate it would seem. Requires some thought in deciding where to place the holes.

Re: Top down wins...
I hollow large parts out before I print them mainly to reduce warpage, but helps on saving resin also.

Re: Top down wins...
In my case the platform riser is a piece of CRS 3/16 x 1". So it seems to basically to offset the loss due to volumetric shrinkage as I build.

Re: cheapest resin
Makerjuice is the best that can be done for the price. As far as I know they are the only company (in the hobby space) that even talks about shrinkage. That is the VERY MOST IMPORTANT PRIMARY FACTOR in the resin. You can talk about color, yield strength, heat deflection temperature etc... but all of...

Another shoe - 100 micron layers
Everyone seems to be obsessed about getting to 5 nanometer layer heights * This is another shoe, printed at 100 micron layer height. I sprayed a coat of grey primer/filler because I find with FDM parts it shows what they truly look like - with all defects. In this case the surface roughness is mainl...
