Re: DLP HDTV

Another slight update: http://s1.postimg.org/bklxcmo7z/P1130819.jpg That's roughly 192mm in the x direction and as you can see there's severe stretching at the image's extremities, worst at the corners. The wide angle lens combination used isn't good for really short projection distances such as thi...

Re: DLP HDTV

Slight update: http://s28.postimg.org/ussgtiu3x/P1130809.jpg Totally missed this. That focus wheel has gobs of play. The only thing I'm worried about is the ridiculously short throw of this engine. In order to get the build area most of us want the vat would basically have to sit on top of th...

Re: Electronics basics (Need your help..)

Have you tried running your stepper off the 5V supply on the Arduino? I've yet to do this, but it should be right around what you're looking for.

Re: Electronics basics (Need your help..)

Ran into a scary similar situation myself. Was using a 12VDC x 200mA wall wart and getting some serious motor heat buildup. I swapped it out for a 3.7VDC x 350mA unit and the high temps went away. In my experience I wouldn't go much over 6V with a little micro stepper like this, and ideally I think ...

Re: Yet another cheap build - Need your help!

Might be easier to buy another DVD drive. Up to you. I found two DVD burners at Goodwill, each $1.99, both had a stepper in them. Fwiw, I heard burners are more likely to have steppers than plain CD/DVD readers.

Re: DLP HDTV

Optic engine (includes lamp ballast) weighs ~11.5lb's. The main and video boards combined weigh ~7.5lb's. They're not nearly as heavy as I imagined, the screen and mirror make up the bulk of the weight. The main lens is ~85mm so the 86mm Vivitar close up lens set should work well. http://s3.postimg....

Re: DLP HDTV

Got a 1080p DLP HDTV the other day off craigslist for cheap ($100, 7 month old lamp, ~35mi away to pick it up). I also saw a 1080p DLP HDTV on craigslist which the owner left on their curb (fully functional), but was a day late in nabbing it. If you're patient I'm sure there are even better deals to...

Re: First Build Top-Down getting started.

You might be able to go on Alibaba and grab some low iron (aka ultra white) sheet glass in the dimensions that you need. If you've got the tools you could always slice the sheet down to size assuming it's the right thickness. I even saw some sheet glass for high heat applications. I'd imagine your b...

Re: DLP HDTV

I'm also highly interested in this prospect. Sadly, I can't help very much. 1920x1080 DLP HDTV's can be found for pretty cheap locally. Not only that, but given the increased size of their light engines, I speculate it'd be easier to swap the lamp for a UV LED (no idea if there's any truth to that)....

Re: top down advantages/disadvantages?

€549 is "outside my budget." Having a pre-modded projector with UV LED means you'll probably have nice cure times, good throw distance, and will never have to sink money into replacing bulbs. I don't need 1080p, I can save a lot by finding a 1280x800 projector. Also, bare bones LCD ...
