I use 8bit in the pattern mode.

Thanks for your input. I will try out your recommendations. Just one question though, do you also use 8 bit in the Pattern sequence or 1 bit? (for the sliced images)

Kind Regards

I'm also using the LC4500 (from Wintech Digital). Works like a charm and gives pretty good results.

My experience is that exposing resin too fast increases the chances of curling and heavy shrinkage. For some resins (FunToDo) I reduced the LED current (thus brightness) down to around 60% and expose a little bit longer. This improved the overall performance.

Exposure for 50µm layers is around 300 milliseconds with FunToDo AshGray.
Only go with the pattern mode, disable gamma correction and use a proper compensation mask for unevenness of the optics.

Yours Sincerely,
radi2k

I am working on a 3D printer which was self designed and built for the reasons to validate multi material printing using DLP projector - LC 4500-UV (works at 405 nm wavelength UV light at an output power of 2W) from Keynote Photonics. Currently I am using a GUI from Keynote Photonics designed for the projector to project images and Universal Gcode Sender (hence works on GRBL firmware) to communicate with the stepper motors(one for the Z axis and one for the X axis to control the linear vat array) in providing the necessary translations as per the GCode file as obtained from Creation Workshop ( my slicer).

I am using flexvats with FEP films (100 microns thick) and a perforated aluminium build plate and the layers are attaching to the build plate well. The resins I have tested are Spot A resins (SPot LV and Spot GP)

But I am having a lot of issues to get models 3D printed. I have tried printing a cube, cylinder and even other models such as the eiffel tower or the rook. The main issue I see is that there is a whole lot of warpage and curling around the edges making the prints a nightmare!

My question is has someone worked with the similar projector. If so I would like to know what resin did they use and what exposure settings they used to succeed in their models.

I hope I get some help out here because there is almost no related work I could find with LC 4500 used for 3d printing applications. I have been following up this community for a while now and it definitely seems that there is a lot of experience with resin type printers. At the moment I am doubting to find whether the projector can be used for 3D printing at all.

Thank you all in advance and have a great day ahead

Kind Regards

Anish

Careful buying LCD panels because some smaller panels have the backlight bonded to the LCD array and consequently is not removable. I'd be careful of the larger screens if you are thinking of building a bottom-up configuration because you'll need to be pulling the polymerized resin from whatever nonstick resin tray material you are going to use. Nonstick is not 100% nonstick when it comes to these resins and so quite a bit of force is necessary to separate layers. The larger you surface area that more difficult it'll be to implement mechanically because of this issue. Of course, you could go top down, but that hasn't been tried yet with LCD as far as know so you'd be stepping into unknown territory there.

A more practical build is to use an LCD that is already known to work and staying under 10 inches or so screen size.

As far as guides I don't know of any. Creation Workshop is no longer developed so this forum has mainly turned into a ghost town but you can take a look at this search to see if you can find anything useful. search.php?keywords=lcd*

One thing that is happening is LCD based machines are getting so cheap that you can damn near buy a new machine for what you can buy the components for to build your own. Like I just bought an Anycubic Photon for $540 on Amazon and it was on sale a few days ago at Aliexpress for $470 shipped. I would say in another year one will be able to find LCD based machines for under $200.

I only come to this forum once or twice a month so if you don't see me replying, if you reply, it's because I forgot and also because hackers disabled my email notifications years ago.

does anybody know of a printer with a fibre optics collimator for near-UV (>400nm)?
It is definetly an overkill given the application but I am just curious.

Thanks

I’m particularly looking to produce high detail 3d models and miniature figurines, so maximizing detail is important, but I definitely want to go as big as possible at the same time. My original plan was to use a laser galvo, but it seems like going big will distort the laser and there’s not a ton of support for addressing that problem. After hunting around this sight, I’m a huge fan of the LCD with the UV backlight set up, so I’d love to make one of these. The smallest 4K monitor I can find for a decent price is a 23” screen. Would this be too big of a panel to use even with 4K resolution? Not sure what the DPI is, but this seems like pushing it. I was hoping for a 17” but didn’t see anything on Newegg.

Do I need any particular kind of LCD if I want to ad my own LED UV backlight?

It seems like the retina iPad version is the most well documented build, so I might start off with that if the big 4K display isn’t a high enough DPI. Are there any links or threads you’d recommend checking out a step by step build, preferably with a BOM or something I can follow along with?

An interesting idea - depending on your build plate and resolution of each projector would be to use in this configuration:
http://www.piwall.co.uk/

In this method - theoretically it could be hooked up to the nanpdlp system and use one Pi as the master and the other Pi's as the slaves. The number of Pi's possible to put in the chain is pretty mind-boggling.
